Profile Information

What is the focus of your present work?
I challenge existing paradigms of thought about "the ways things are" and the kind of future we are creating versus the kind of future we want to be creating. This includes challenging the status quo and championing social and organizational transformations through my writings, keynotes, workshops and coaching work. I call myself a businessman-turned-futurist and social entrepreneur. I have published twelve books to date, the most recent being Getting to the Better Future: A Matter of Conscious Choosing.
Can you briefly summarize your past achievements?
I spent thirty years in a variety of entrepreneurial roles, having started or co-founded several companies that included real estate, investment securities and public relations. In the 1980s I began focusing on social entrepreneurship, engaging in ventures that served the public good, out of a concern for the future of society. For more information see the web link below.
Where can I learn more about you? List the URL address here. If you don't have a link, leave blank.

Would you like to share any of your education with the other Fellows? If so, post it here.
As I am fond of citing, I am an alum of the HK Graduate School of Business (and, no, that isn't Hong Kong). Starting college with a scholarship to the University of San Francisco in 1954, I majored in mathematics, then engineering at another college and finally business at various others. Informal courses continue to this day so I can boast of over half a century of continuing education.
Where were you born?
San Francisco Bay Area, fourth generation Californian
Where are you located (multiple locations can be posted)?
San Francisco
Do you have a professional website? If so, list the URL here. If not, leave blank.

As a Fellow, we know you have a commitment to making the world a better place. How would you describe your motivation and aspirations in this context?
I know an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, socially just human presence on this planet is possible. Toward this end, I challenge the way people think about work, leadership and the future so they can consciously transform the multitude of human systems in which they function - relationships, families, teams, organizations, industries and whole societies.

Global Mind Change video here

My mentor, Willis Harman (1918-1997) was a visionary futurist who spoke a lot about the need fro a "global mind change" and wrote a book with the same title. The Global MindShift people added graphics to some of his recorded words about this for short clip you can view here: http://www.global-mindshift.org/memes/globalmindchange.swf (copy and paste into your browser if link doesn't work)
